Feed the Need Program
Feed the Need with a Taste of Petersburg!
In November 2020, the City of Petersburg announced the Holiday Season Giving Initiative - "Feed the Need with a Taste of Petersburg." Through Feed the Need, the City partnered with local restaurants to purchase pre-packaged meals to be delivered to Petersburg residents during the Thanksgiving holiday.
The goal of this program was to provide meals to Petersburg residents who'd been affected by COVID-19 while simultaneously providing economic stimulus to local restaurants. The program was wildly successful and led to the City completing another round during the Christmas Holiday.
Through this initiative, our amazing team of restaurants and community partners were able to cook and deliver 20,110 total meals to Petersburg community members during the holiday season!
Feed the Need - With a Produce Twist!
Following a successful holiday meals program, the City of Petersburg partnered with the River Street Market and Petersburg Healthy Options Partnerships (PHOPs) to provide bags of fresh produce to seniors in the City of Petersburg. The goal of this program is to provide 1,600 bags of produce to our senior residents over a 16 week period.
Produce is being provided to residents of Gillhaven, Sycamore Towers, Lafayette House, Fillmore Place, Washington Columns, Cavalier Farms, and also the Hope Center, Sheriff Crawford's Triad Seniors, Recreation Seniors & Claiborne Square. Flyers are distributed at each location with date and time of distribution.
The Feed the Need with a Taste of Petersburg and Feed the Need with a Produce Twist are possible through CARES Act funding.
