Come be a part of the conversation and learn how trauma informed care helps to build resiliency and what role you can play in creating a path to healing. This discussion is being led by Sheilah Belle of Praise 104.7 FM radio. Panelists Petersburg Sher- riff Vanessa Crawford, Reverend Jameson McLaughlin and Petersburg Wellness Consortium Chair Theresa Caldwell will all share their stories. As part of the evening’s program, there will be a choreo poem involving youth, adult and senior voices from the community who will speak their mind through purposeful words.

The Public Health Parade will begin at 127 E. Washington Street near Liberty Mart Gas station at approximately 1:15 PM. Community members, faith-based organizations, local community partners and agencies from across the Crater Health District will join the walk. The parade will end at the Public Health Community Day Celebration, 301 Halifax St where there will be FREE FOOD, multiple vendors, music, KISS FM Radio, activities, and games along with an inflatable for kids; all lasting until 5:00 PM. We will sponsor the Celebration Walk of Life in Memory of the Washington, Wilkerson, Chavis family who were violently murdered April 19, 2014, on Harding St. This Walk will occur at 2PM or close thereafter from Halifax and Harding Streets to 721 Harding Street (the site of the incident). There the family will enjoy a peaceful celebration with food (the Cookout) and fun for the community in an effort to stand against violence everywhere...We hope that you will be able to extend your time by at least a half hour or an hour beyond 2PM to participate in the Celebration of Life Walk in Memory and against Violence. The Follies showcase will present some of the most talented singers, and musicians from the area. Several of the artists performing have travelled and performed all over the United States and the world. The showcase performers include Wendell Jones, Nate Cooper, Celeste Wynn, Kevin Fields, Patrick Davis, Dwayne Cooper, Leon Crawley, Glenda Hines, Chenille Oates, Ron Kearney and Rodney Stith.
The event will feature the comedic stylings of professional funnyman Ron Kearney. The special guest dancers are acclaimed RVA Dancers from the Richmond Dance Theater. The choreographer for the RVA Dancers is Petersburg’s own Rodney Williams. These performers will be backed up by Soul Unlimited Band, also from Petersburg.

The Petersburg Symphony Orchestra will present its final concert of its 40th Concert Season on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at 4:00 pm, Tabernacle Baptist Community Life Center, 444 Halifax Street. .
This concert, entitled “An American Journey”, will feature music from those “Deans” of American composers. The PSO will explore moments of happiness, peace, and liberty through the performance of pieces such as America Salute by Morton Gould, Postlude in F by Charles Ives, and several Aaron Copland compositions to include Hoe Down, Shaker Melody from Appalachian Spring, and Lincoln Portrait narrated by Roger Gregory, Petersburg native, and Chief US Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
The public is invited to join us for an uplifting musical salute to this great, beautiful, and free country as we close out our 40th year as a cultural musical institution in Southside Virginia, under the leadership of its extraordinary music director, Ulysses Kirksey.
