What is the Petersburg Transit Modernization Initiative?

The Petersburg Transit Modernization Initiative aims to enhance transit accessibility and promote the use of electric buses throughout Petersburg. Funded through a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grant, this initiative will follow an inclusive and equitable planning process to achieve its goals. Specifically, it will focus on these three goals:
- Improve Paratransit Services: Identify ways to boost the reliability and customer satisfaction of paratransit services through procedural changes and technology.
- Enhance Transit Accessibility: Evaluate how to improve access to key regional destinations and determine the best types of services to reach these areas, such as fixed routes, paratransit, or human service transportation. The focus will be on removing transportation barriers for elderly, minority, disabled, poor, and carless members of the community.
- Electrify the Transit Fleet: Develop a plan for PAT to transition to electric vehicles, making them more competitive for state and federal grants.
