Annual Tree Lighting and Christmas Parade!
Petersburg, Va: The City of Petersburg is vigorously preparing for the 2018 Holiday Season! This week, the City will host two fun-filled events to kick off the celebration.
The Tree Lighting will take place on Thursday, November 29th from 4:30pm – 7:30pm.
This event is in partnership with Petersburg Area Art League and will begin with a mini parade. The mini parade will begin near the former Virginia Employment Commission between Washington St. & Franklin St., travel along Franklin St., proceed to Sycamore St. and will end at the Petersburg Area Art League.
The official lighting of the tree will happen at 5:00pm in the Art League Art Park. The culmination of this event will include a visit from Santa Claus and Live entertainment at Union Train Station.
“The holiday season truly invokes a spirit of kindness, and we have worked to put on two spectacular events for our community to begin this joyous time of year,” said Deputy City Manager for Community Affairs, Darnetta Tyus.
The Official Christmas Parade, sponsored by Dominion Energy, will take place on Saturday, December 1st at 3:00pm. The 2018 parade theme is “The Twelve Days of Christmas.”
The parade route will begin at 2120 South Crater Road (near the Walnut Hill Market), and travel down South Crater Road to Pinehill Plaza (3333 South Crater Road).
In addition to sponsoring the parade, Dominion Energy will also sponsor a tent during the parade providing hot chocolate and cookies along the parade route.
“We have enjoyed a longstanding partnership with The City of Petersburg,” said Earnest Green, External Affairs Manager, Dominion Energy. “The opportunity to sponsor the parade is just one of the ways we give back to the community we serve daily.”
