For Immediate Release
(Petersburg, Virginia) – July 6, 2016. Petersburg Utility Billing Customers will be receiving bills the week of June 27th for the billing period of May 6, 2016 – June 6, 2016. The consumption reflected on these bills are actual readings. This comes after the Acting City Manager’s, Dironna Moore Belton, “Boots on Ground” campaign, which successfully checked almost 12,500 residential and commercial water meters throughout the City; one step of many in the overhaul of the City’s Utility Billing.
“I am very proud of the work the Department of Public Works has accomplished over the last three months. After assuming this position in March one of my top priorities was to fix this utility billing issue, and I’m happy to report we are almost there,” said Dironna Moore Belton.
In April 2016 Belton laid out a three step process to address the overall utility billing issue. The first step was the production of fair and justifiable estimated bills. The second step was to manually ensure that all water bills are based on a customer’s actual meter reading and the third and final step is automation which is to utilize the meter system as it was intended to be based on the ability of the entire system to be read through radio communication. Belton, also intends to improve customer service and billing processes and procedures over the next couple of months.
