[ARCHIVED] Acceptance of Interim Chief Operating Officer

First I would like to thank God, the members of Council, and the great citizens of Petersburg for this challenging opportunity.

Born and raised in Petersburg, and having gone through both private and public schools here, I graduated in 1996 from Petersburg High School.

I am confident that my education, my 14 years of experience in policy and program operations and the drive and ability to be a “worker bee”, will assist in the successful turnaround of our City Departments and City services. During this interim period I will develop strategic and performance based planning strategies as well as implement procedure oriented management processes.
During the first 30 days I will review the procedures and operations of all City Departments and outline in a report measurable objectives to Council that will aim to cut costs, create revenue and increase how far actual tax dollars can go.

Our City needs to not only improve its internal communications, but the dialogue between the city council and staff, as well as how the organization communicates with its residents.

In addition we are going to work a lot on accountability and becoming a more accountable city organization. It is very important in these times, that our residents expect accountability for what they are getting for their tax dollars, how money is being spent, is the organization really achieving goals that are in line with what their elective representatives have set forth?

Perhaps one of the City’s other most troubled areas is ethics.

As we all know, Petersburg has gone through some tough times over the last year, and unfortunately the City is looked upon as not setting the best ethical examples. So we’re going to focus on how can we, as public servants, from city manager level down to entry level to be the best we can be, both morally and ethically.

I think this is the beginning of a new, and success filled era for our city. We will work hard until we have the full trust of all of citizens back. Thank you again for allowing myself, a home grown Petersburg leader to make our home better.
Key focus areas: Policy and Procedures Communication, Accountability and Ethics
