As winter weather conditions have subsided, the City of Petersburg is committed to make sure our major routes and residential areas are clear. The City of Petersburg Department of Public Works and Utilities is continuing with snowplow operations to make sure major roadways are clear with little travel difficulties. For secondary and neighborhood roads that still have snow or ice coverage, crews are continuing to work to clear these areas in the coming days. Areas near the hospital and the snow routes for Petersburg Area Transit are also considered primary routes.
“We ask for our residents patience as we clean the city this week,” says Daniel Harrison, Interim Public Works Director. “We are treating the ice and cleaning the streets as efficiently as possible and our crews have been working nonstop since the storm ended.”
Clean up of secondary streets began Monday after the primary streets were completed. Neighborhood areas will start to be completed today through the week. The progress will continue with the warm temperatures.
City residents and businesses are reminded that per City code (98-2132), you must clear the snow on sidewalks. The City will not clear commercial or private entrances or driveways.
