The Petersburg Generals are excited to introduce a new logo, which replaces the simplistic baseball centered in the middle of a star logo. The new logo captures the history of the city of Petersburg featuring a civil-war era shield with patriotic flowing bunting which reflects the waves of the Appomattox River. The main highlight of the new logo features the team’s strong and very powerful mascot Peter S. Bird carrying the banner in his beak.
General Manager Ryan Massenburg states, “We needed a distinctive, memorable, kid friendly logo that would convey our message. All of the teams in Coastal Plain League have creative, inviting and distinctive team logos that represents their brand. Now the Petersburg Generals Logo will join the other CPL teams in featuring creative, inviting and a stand out team logo”.
During baseball season, the players provide community service by visiting schools, hospitals, senior centers and libraries. The players read to the students and seniors as well as sign baseball cards and provide hugs/smiles. The leading question from most of the students referring to the team logo was “why is there a baseball inside of a star?”. The players would often respond, “it’s just the team logo”. Now, players will respond by giving students a little history of the city as it relates to the new logo.
The logo is not the only new item that will transform our brand, as the Generals home field will bolster a new digital scoreboard and sound system - a sponsorship provided by Tri-City Regional Disposal & Recycling Services and Container First Services. The in-game entertainment will provide even more thrills than last year and provide a lifetime of memories.
The season opener is May 27 against the Wilson Tobs; game time 7:05 p.m. The beautiful Petersburg Sports Complex, located at 100 Ballpark Rd. Petersburg, VA, will serve as the home field for all 28 of the Generals’ home games.
