The City of Petersburg’s Department of Cultural Affairs, Arts and Tourism, along with the Department of Public Works is hosting the City’s first Saint Patrick’s Day celebration on Saturday, March 14 in Old Towne near the Farmer’s Market and Petersburg Area Art League. The event is free and open to the public and will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event is rain or shine.
Sportsbar Rockstar is a rock, funk, blues, and soul variety band that started in 2011. Their “power trio” band is based in the Richmond, Tri-cities area and they perform weekly in Old Towne Petersburg. The KOS Band (formerly known as Kings of Swing) is Virginia’s most versatile dance and show band. They play beach music, Motown favorites and everyone’s favorite music of the 70s and tunes of the Swing era too.
In addition to music, there will be children’s activities in “Leprechaun Land” co-sponsored by the Petersburg Art League, The Petersburg YMCA and McCray Electric. There will be face painting, sack races, bean bag toss and parachute games, and more. All youth activities will be on PAAL’s site from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors can also start their day out with walking tours through Old Towne sponsored by Historic Petersburg Foundation in coordination with the Old Town Visitor Center. Tours will begin every 30 minutes starting at 9 a.m. near the Farmer’s Market and the last tour ends at noon. This event will include a beer garden that is being sponsored by the Southside Virginia Council for the Arts. Reasonably priced tasteful brews will be on sale throughout the event.
