The Richmond Chapter of American Gold Star Mothers (AGSM) and the Frances Bland Randolph Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) have volunteered to conduct the Wreaths Across America (WAA) ceremony this year at Blandford Cemetery on Saturday, December 13, 2014 starting at 12:00 p.m.
Seven ceremonial wreaths will be placed to remember those who served, to honor their sacrifices and to teach our younger generations about the high cost of our freedoms. Specially designed wreaths for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and POW/MIA will be placed during a ceremony that will be coordinated simultaneously at over 800 participating locations all across the country.
Since 2008, the United States Congress has unanimously decreed the second Saturday of December as National Wreaths Across America Day. This year will mark the 23rd anniversary of Maine wreaths being donated and placed on headstones at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., and the tenth year of the national wreath sponsorship campaign under the guidance of the non-profit Wreaths Across America.org that will bring the same remembrance wreaths to veterans cemeteries, monuments, and community centers all cross the nation. This year, it is projected more than 160,000 volunteers will take part in the mission to Remember, Honor and Teach.
