Mayor Brian A. Moore is one of eight mayors in the United States selected to participate in the Mayors’ Institute on City Design (MICD) South, November 5-7 in Tampa, Florida. Florida Center for Community Design and Research (FCCDR) at the University of South Florida are the host of the event.
MICD is a National Endowment for the Arts leadership initiative in partnership with the American Architectural Foundation and the United States Conference of Mayors with support from United Technologies. It is a symposium intended to offer the invited mayors a better understand of the design of cities. Since 1986, MICD organizes sessions where mayors engage leading design experts to find solutions to the most critical urban design challenges facing their cities. Sessions are organized around case-study problems. Each mayor presents a problem from their city and receive feedback from other mayor and design experts. Exit 52 will be the case study for Petersburg.
“Exit 52 is a priority for the City as we move forward to becoming a top destination for residents and tourists. This exit is the gateway to all of Petersburg.” comments Mayor Moore. “I look forward to meeting with other mayors that may be facing similar challenges in their cities and hear different approaches and strategies that are taking place in our various communities to solve some of these common issues.”
Other mayors include: Miles Atkins (Mooresville, NC), Michael Claudet (Houma, LA), Vivian Jones (Wake Forest, NC), Bridget Newton (Rockville, MD), Barrington Russell, Sr. (Lauderdale Lakes, FL), Chuck Travis (Cornelius, NC) and Steve Williams (Huntington, WV).
