[ARCHIVED] New Director of Economic Development Appointed

The City of Petersburg is pleased to announce the selection of Brian A. Moore as the Director of Economic Development. In this position, Mr. Moore will be responsible for directing, planning, and leading the economic development programs and activities for the city. 

“Mr. Moore brings a unique perspective, years of experience, an excellent educational background, a collaborative attitude, and a passion for Petersburg to the position,” said City Manager Stuart Turille. “He is dedicated to Petersburg’s goal to grow economic development and creating opportunities in the workforce for our citizens to succeed.”

Mr. Moore, a resident of Petersburg for over 35 years, has extensive experience in Petersburg government as a former member of the government for over 12 years.  His expertise includes economic development, community and urban development, Capital outlay projects, historic preservation, project management, site plan review, proposal development, and strategic planning.

“This is a critical time for economic development in Petersburg with the development and growth of the pharmaceutical cluster,” said Deputy City Manager Tangela Innis. “Mr. Moore knows Petersburg and his knowledge will give the city an advantage in moving quickly in attracting and developing industry and business.”

Mr. Moore has been a member and held numerous board and commission appointments to include the Amtrack National Advisory Council, the Crater Planning District Commission, the Tri-Cities Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), National League of Cities, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Virginia Gateway Region Global Growth, Global Future Initiative, the Virginia Municipal League, the Virginians for High-Speed Rail, the Army Community Heritage Partnership, and the Crater Planning District Commission, Fort Lee Joint Land Use Study. 

“I look forward to working with an outstanding city team to bring substantial and innovative economic development to the City of Petersburg,” said Moore. “The City of Petersburg is committed to moving forward.  I am excited about the future for our city.”

Mr. Moore earned a Managerial Economics degree from Hampden-Sydney College, a Project Management Certificate from the University of Richmond, Robbins School of Business, Management Institute, and an Executive Certificate in Non-Profit Leadership from Duke University. He is a single parent to three wonderful grown daughters, Alicia, Gina, and Dana Moore.
