The City of Petersburg will host their annual citywide cleanup event on Saturday, October 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents are asked to bring trash and other debris to the drop-off location in their respective Ward. Residents must display a current Petersburg decal.
“The City of Petersburg encourages all residents to recycle because it is a tremendous cost savings, helps our economic development, prevents pollution, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and fosters a sense of community involvement and responsibility,” comments City Manager, William E. Johnson, III. “This city wide cleanup event is a great opportunity for the community to help us reach our goal of four thousand tons to be collected and recycled.”
For the first time, the citywide cleanup will feature electronic recycling and document shredding on site. Electronic cycling and document shredding will only be available at the School Board Administrative offices on E. South Boulevard. This service is for residents only, not businesses. Drop off locations include:
• A.P. Hill Elementary School (Talley Avenue)
• Pittman Annex parking lot (W. Wythe Street)
• School Board Administrative offices (E. South Boulevard)
• Robert E. Lee Elementary School (Gibbons Avenue)
• Petersburg High School (Homestead Drive)
• J.E.B. Stuart Elementary School (Pleasants Lane)
• Peabody Middle School (Lee Avenue)
Residents can organize a neighborhood cleanup at any time. The neighborhood must select a Neighborhood Coordinator; determine a location for the cleanup; the Neighborhood Coordinator calls the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) at (804) 359-8413 to schedule a delivery of a container; place waste in container; call CVWMA to have container picked up. There is no charge for this service to residents.
Major automotive parts, oils, hazardous materials, paints, fertilizers, large construction debris, contractor waste material, hot materials, tree trunks, root balls and equipment tires will not be accepted or allowed to be dumped. Also, each resident is able to drop off no more than four vehicle tires per resident.
