[ARCHIVED] Petersburg Area Transit Offers New Incentives for Veterans

Petersburg Area Transit (PAT) will be offering a Veterans PassCard to provide free and discounted rides to qualifying veterans effective Tuesday, September 9. The free fare ride program is provided through the Petersburg Freedom Support Center for fixed-route bus service and operated by PAT. This initiative comes out of the Office of Councilman W Howard Myers and approved by his colleagues on City Council.

“The Veterans PassCard is a great example of the City of Petersburg supporting the men and women who have served our country,” comments City Manager, William E. Johnson, III. “Providing this transportation connects them with job opportunities, access to health services, and more.”

PAT service region includes the City of Petersburg, Colonial Heights, Hopewell and parts of Dinwiddie and Prince George counties. Veterans may board PAT buses for a free ride for up to three months. Qualifying disabled veterans must present the Veterans PassCard in order to ride free on PAT buses. After three months, veterans may qualify for a half-price discount on PAT fares.

“The Freedom Support Center is excited to partner with Petersburg Area Transit to offer this free and reduced fare to the veterans in our community,” said Tara Anderson, Executive Director of the Freedom Support Center. “We owe it to our veterans to not only make sure they aren’t forgotten but that they and their families are given the assistance they need. It’s a small repayment to the sacrifices they gave for our country and our freedom.”

Qualification for this incentive is determined by the Freedom Support Center. The Freedom Support Center is located at 32 W. Washington Street. Passes are issued on Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Freedom Support Center is a one-stop resource center for military personnel, veterans and their families.
