Drive-Thru Style Christmas Parade Hosted in Petersburg
A Covid-Conscious, modified Christmas Parade will make its way to Petersburg this Saturday, December 19, 2020 from 6:00pm -7:30pm in Old Towne/downtown Petersburg. This celebration is sponsored by Dominion Energy and LNNUSA.com.
Unfortunately, the City was unable to host the annual Christmas Parade due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, to still bring holiday cheer to the City, community organizations and local business owners have led the way in designing a jovial, yet COVID compliant Christmas Celebration.
The drive-thru parade will appear as a typical parade…just reversed! While spectators usually line the streets to enjoy a procession, this modified version will showcase stationary Christmas displays along the street while spectators drive through and enjoy the views from the safety of their vehicles.
“This year has looked very different for everyone, but the Holiday season is always worth celebrating even if it’s in an altered format,” said Petersburg Mayor, Sam Parham. “We’re excited to have this unique celebration in our community, and I hope everyone enjoys it this weekend!”
To enhance the overall experience, the parade will also include a special music accompaniment that spectators can tune into on 87.9 FM as they drive by the parade. This service is provided by Lloyd Taylor of Audio Masters VA.
Signature Sponsor Dominion Energy representative LeRoy Adkins expressed the company’s deeper reasoning behind supporting the event this year. “Even though we are in a pandemic, creating memories is so essential for all of us. The pandemic will pass on, but the memories we create today can be treasured forever,” he said.
Displays will include: Greetings from Petersburg City Council, Greetings from the City Manager and City Administration, Salute to our Armed Forces, Petersburg Police Department, Petersburg Fire Department, Petersburg Sheriff, Southside Emergency Service Crews, Inflatable displays of Clarice, the Grinch, Frosty, Snoopy and Toy Soldier, LNN USA Mobile News Vehicle, SANTA CLAUS and much more!
The Reverse Parade Route will direct traffic down Market Street; turn right on to River Street; then right to Rock Street, followed by a right onto Old Street. Vehicles will then turn left onto North Sycamore Street and exit with a left at Bollingbrook Street.
