Water Line Break in Downtown Petersburg
City of Petersburg utility crews are working to repair a significant water line break that occurred at the intersection of Bank and N. Sycamore Streets. The break happened around noon on Sunday, October 1. Public Works crews have been on the scene since then, working until after 10:00 pm. They will return early Monday morning to continue repairs and restore water to the area.
The water line break has left many buildings and customers in the Downtown and Old Towne areas without water or with very low water pressure. Several city buildings will remain closed on Monday to ensure the safety of City employees and residents. These include City Hall, City Hall Annex, Finance, Commonwealth’s Attorney Office, and Circuit Court. Employees from these departments are urged to work from home until the situation is resolved.
However, services at the General District Court, JDR Court, and the Police Station will continue as usual, as these buildings have access to water.
For inquiries related to water usage, residents and businesses can call (804) 733-2407. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this time and assure you that City crews are doing everything they can to fix the line as soon as possible.
