Petersburg Area Transit (PAT) offers the following Specialized Para-transit Service Programs: 

Hours of Operation

Paratransit service is available the same days and hours that PAT's fixed routes operate, Monday through Friday, from 5:45am to 6:15pm. On Saturday's specialized transportation service is available from 7:15am to 6:15pm. There is no service available on Sunday's. The earliest you can be picked up is 5:45am and you must reach your (final) destination by 6:15pm.

ADA Paratransit Service

This service is for Senior Citizens, Medicare card holders and Persons with Disabilities (permanent or temporary) living within the city limits of Petersburg, Colonial Heights or Hopewell or ¾ mile of the service areas. The paratransit service operates wheelchair equipped vans providing curb to curb (door to door upon request) service for ADA qualified passengers.

65 Years Old Paratransit Service

This service is available for persons 65 years old or older living in the City of Petersburg, in the City of Colonial Heights, the City of Hopewell. Patrons 60 and over may also continue to ride PAT local, fixed route buses for a 1/2 fare ($.85 cents).

The Cost of Specialized Transit is $1.75 per one-way trip.

Reservations for next day service may be arranged by calling the Petersburg Area Transit (PAT) administrative offices at 804-324-5658, 24 hours a day. Confirmation will be made the same day or the morning of the next day.  Para-transit service is available from 6:00 a.m. until 6:15 p.m. Monday thru Friday and 7:00 a.m. until 6:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Paratransit is not in service on the following holidays - New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Reasonable Accommodations 

  • PAT is committed to making reasonable modifications in policies, practices, or procedures when such accommodations are necessary to avoid discrimination on the basis of disability.
  • Requests for reasonable accommodations should be made during the para-transit eligibility process, through customer service inquires, by calling 804-324-5658 through the ADA complaint Procedure.  
  • Accessible formats to requests reasonable accommodations may be made available upon request.

Service Animals 

A service animal is any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability. The use of a service animal must be identified on the ADA Application. To ride the Petersburg Area Transit:

  • The animal must remain under the control of the owner and behave appropriately. 
  • The animal must remain at your feet or on your lap. It may not sit on a vehicle seat.
  • The animal must not be aggressive toward people or other animals. 
  • You are responsible for any damage caused by the animal. (49 CFR 37.167 (d))

Record Retentions

Clients' complaints are kept on file for a period of one (1) year and the records are maintained in the computer database for at least five (5) years.
