Photo ID Requirements at the Polls
- Voters are required to show Photo ID before voting . Acceptable forms of Photo I.D. are:
- Valid Virginia Driver’s License or Identification Card
- Valid Virginia DMV issued Veteran’s ID card
- Valid United States Passport
- Other government-issued photo identification cards (must be issued by US Government, the
- Commonwealth of Virginia, or a political subdivision of the Commonwealth)
- Valid college or university student photo identification card (must be from an institution of higher education located in Virginia)
Employee identification card containing a photograph of the voter and issued by an employer of the voter in the ordinary course of the employer’s business

If you do NOT possess any of the acceptable forms of Photo I.D.listed above, you can receive a free Photo I.D., which is only valid for voting purposes only, from our office.
Any voter who forgets appropriate Photo I.D. may still vote by using a Provisional Ballot, under oath, stating that he is the voter he claims to be. That voter must then provide Photo I.D. to the Electoral Board before 12:00 pm of the Friday immediately following the election in which the Provisional Ballot was cast.
