[ARCHIVED] Petersburg Public Utilities Prepares for Sewer Line Smoke Testing

smokeHOMEPAGE

The Petersburg Public Utilities Department will conduct sewer line smoke testing during the weeks of August 13th – August 17th and August 20th - August 24th.

Testing will take place in the following areas:

  • N. Union Street
  • W. Tabb Street
  • E. Tabb Street
  • River Street
  • Adam Street
  • Bolingbrook Street
  • High Street
  • Perry Street

Residents and businesses may see smoke coming from the vent located on the roof of their building, downspouts from gutters, and cleanouts located in the yard. This smoke is non-toxic and should not cause alarm.

If smoke is seen in these places, residents should run water in all sinks and drains to ensure there is a water seal to prevent smoke from entering the building.

If residents experience smoke appearing in their home or business and it is confirmed that the source is not through a plumbing fixture, they should call 911 immediately to report smoke.

For any questions about this program, please contact the Utilities Department at 804-733-2407.
