The City of Petersburg invites the community to attend a special presentation on Tuesday, October 27, to hear recommendations by an Urban Land Institute panel regarding the revitalization of the Halifax Triangle. The presentation will be held at 5 p.m. at the Union Train Station located at 103 River Street.
The presenters are members of a Technical Assistance Panel of the Richmond District Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI). ULI is a non-profit, member-led professional organization providing high-quality programs and projects related to land use. Its Richmond council serves 66 counties and 21 cities in Virginia.
ULI’s Technical Assistance Panel, or TAP, program is designed to provide sponsoring organizations a customized approach to specific land-use and real estate issues. TAP members include developers, landowners, investors, designers, planners, engineers, market and financial analysts and members of the public sector. Panelists and area stakeholders collaborate over a two-day period to address complex redevelopment and land-use projects. Recommendations are presented to the public at the completion of that work session. Samples of the questions the panelists will address include:
• Concepts for the site area that would best meet the Halifax Triangle’s potential,
• Types of urban design standards with the concepts
• How do we ensure that our historic ethnic heritage be incorporated in the design?
• What is the connectivity between Virginia State University, the Union Train Station, Old Towne and how will the proposed concepts will increase connectivity?
Following Tuesday’s presentation, ULI Richmond will compile a summary of the presentation and recommendations and present them to the City of Petersburg for use in planning and decision-making. For more information about the program, please contact the City’s Department of Planning at (804) 733-2308. More details about ULI are available at Richmond.ULI.org.
