[ARCHIVED] City of Petersburg Announces New Economic Development Director

City Manager William E. Johnson, III today announced the hiring of Dr. Landis Faulcon as the City’s Director of Economic Development. Dr. Faulcon will begin her new position on Monday, August 3, 2015.

“Redevelopment and new economic development is critical to the future of Petersburg, and I look forward to the leadership of Dr. Faulcon in the city,” comments Johnson. “Dr. Faulcon will be an asset to our city as we look for new ways to work with businesses, add jobs and grow Petersburg for the next generation.”

Most recently, Dr. Faulcon served as the Urban Redevelopment Corridor manager for Charles County, Md. She was responsible for managing the county’s redevelopment efforts in the Waldorf urban corridor and working with county, state and federal agencies to promote redevelopment and transit services for Charles County.

Dr. Faulcon has more than 25 years of leadership experience in local government administration. Her work experience includes serving as a revitalization consultant for the City of Savannah, Ga. In this role, she developed comprehensive revitalization strategies. Prior to her work in Savannah, Dr. Faulcon managed an organization created by the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth, Va., administering a $100 million federal empowerment zone grant. This position afforded her the opportunity to lead revitalization and economic development initiatives in the most distressed areas of these cities.

Dr. Faulcon earned a doctorate in urban services/management, certificate of accomplishment as Professional Public Manager, and master’s degree in urban studies from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. She holds a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
