Petersburg Assessor’s Office Requesting Information from Commercial Property Owners
Petersburg's City Assessor’s Office is requesting income and expense information from commercial property owners to develop fair and equitable assessments of income-producing properties. Virginia Code 58.1-3294 enables assessors to gather this type of information, which is invaluable for creating fair property assessments. Commercial income-producing properties include apartments, mobile home parks, hotels, office buildings, shopping centers, and self-storage units.
The City Assessor’s Office needs accurate income and expense data to create fair and equitable assessments of commercial properties. By submitting this information during the general reassessment period, commercial property owners can help save City resources by reducing the number of appeals they submit.
More than 900 commercial property owners in Petersburg will receive a letter soon from the Assessor's Office requesting this information, which is confidential and exempt from the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Businesses that don't provide this information face an estimate, which may not reflect their actual net income.
Contact the Petersburg Assessor’s Office for more information regarding the income and expense survey. Commercial property owners can call 804-733-2333 or email cityassessorsoffice@petersburg-va.org with questions.
