[ARCHIVED] Petersburg Names Director of Public Works & Utilities

The City of Petersburg is pleased to announce the selection of Paul Johnson, EIT as Director of Public Works & Utilities. Johnson comes to Petersburg with over 20 years of experience in the engineering and construction industry including Director, Assistant Director, and Drainage Engineer I in the Road Construction and Maintenance Division in the Henrico County Department of Public Works. He has also worked as an engineer for several private firms specializing in commercial and residential structure design, stormwater systems, road alignments and design, site plans, and earthwork balancing projects.

 

“Mr. Johnson competed against a pool of extremely qualified candidates,” said Interim City Manager Kenneth Miller. “I am confident that he will proactively lead Petersburg Public Works & Utilities as the City begins major upgrades and improvements to water, wastewater, storm drainage and transportation projects that will provide better and expanded services for citizens and business/industry growth.” 
 
In his Henrico County roles, Johnson was involved in ensuring MS4 compliance, maintaining the county’s road and drainage systems, and supported the county’s efforts to prepare and recover from natural disasters and winter storms. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with various internal departments and external groups, including Police, Fire, Planning departments, IT, General Services, Public Schools, Virginia Department of Transportation, Virginia DEQ, and the EPA.

 

“I look forward to leading a department that is vital to serving Petersburg citizens,” said Paul Johnson. “Improving and growing the infrastructure in Petersburg is essential for economic growth and prosperity. My family and I live in Petersburg, so I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve my community.”

 

Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Pensacola Christian College and has completed Master’s work in Civil Engineering from Florida Atlantic University. He is working on a Master of Science degree in Executive Leadership at Liberty University.

 

Johnson will begin as Director of Public Works & Utilities on June 21, 2022. His salary is $125,000 per year.
