[ARCHIVED] New Technology Allows Residents to Stay Connected on the Go

The City of Petersburg now offers two additional ways for the community to connect and stay informed. GORequest by Government Outreach and Notify Me are two programs residents and visitors are able to use to be notified about events, weather alerts, city updates, emergency information and even report issues.

GORequest, a smart phone application, allows residents to tap right into Petersburg and report any issue fast through their personal phone. Through the app, you are able to take a picture, submit information about a pothole, graffiti, trash, etc. and the app knows the location, who can fix the issue for you in the city and submit the information directly from your phone. Users are kept up-to-date on the status of their issue, and it is all done without having to call, use a computer or come physically in person to report. GORequest is a free application available for download on iPhone and Android.

Notify Me is a feature of the new Petersburg website, Residents and visitors can sign up for Notify Me and be select what information they would like to be notified about. They have the option of receiving an email and/or text message. Users can sign up to be alerted about events, cancellations of games, delays, street closures, severe weather alerts, emergency situations, critical community alers and more all specific to the city. As city officials post information, users will be notified immediately. Residents may sign up for this free service at Notify Me.

“The City is excited to offer these new communication tools to our residents and visitors as it allows people to stay engaged with our city and us to connect with them through technology,” comments City Manager, William E. Johnson, III. “We are committed to making sure that each person in our city has a way to get the latest information, as quickly and effectively as possible.”

Other ways to stay engaged with the City is also through the City’s Facebook page and Twitter where information is updated on a regular basis. The city also has a comprehensive website that includes information and contact numbers for each city department and service, and include current news stories and newsletters. Each week the City sends out the Experience Petersburg newsletter. Residents can sign up to receive this newsletter by emailing For more information, please visit
